Phelan-Good for a Cause
Carmel, IN, June 5 – Property Pros was proud to support the first annual Cecilia’s Advice fundraiser event, A Night of Masquerade, as platinum sponsors. The event raised over $65,000 benefitting continued research and awareness efforts by the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation.
What is Phelan-McDermid Syndrome?
Phelan-McDermid Syndrome is a rare genetic condition caused by a deletion on the terminal end of chromosome 22 in the region of 22q13. Symptoms of Phelan-McDermid vary but can include autism or autistic-like behavior, gastrointestinal issues, severe developmental delays, gross motor delays, inability to sweat, seizures, and speech delays/absent speech. There is no cure or treatment specifically for the condition.
Supporting the Cause
Property Pros learned about this condition when our clients shared the story behind their landscape redesign plan. Their daughter, Cecilia, was diagnosed with Phelan-McDermid Syndrome, and they wanted to create an outdoor oasis that met her special, temperature regulating needs. After PPLM designer Tracy Cox delivered on their outdoor dreams, the Pros wanted to do more to support research for this cause. A sponsorship with our client’s non-profit, Cecilia’s Advice–named in honor of their daughter–was our next opportunity.
Our team is so happy that this first event was a success and looks forward to seeing more research and awareness of this rare condition come to fruition in years to come. The next event supporting the efforts of Cecilia’s advice will be held in 2023. Cecilia’s Advice, LLC is an Indiana-based 501c3 non-profit organization working to spread awareness of this rare chromosome deletion and raise funds for the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation.
